Interested in studying UCD Science? Well here’s a quick rundown.

UCD Science currently offers 27 different degree’s but there is a common entry pathway – you can opt to focus on your preferred stream immediately or try out a number of subjects in first year. The three streams are:

At the end of second year you decide your degree major and go on to study one degree major in third and forth year. There are also direct entry courses for Computer Science and Actuarial and Financial Studies.

Quick Facts:

  • UCD O’Brien Centre for Science was opened in 2013, it represents the largest single capital investment in science in the history of the state.
  • Contains different labs for each subject, most being designed to have emphasis on small group teaching – 25 students + a demonstrator per lab.
  • Building contains break out pods for study, group work or break out sessions. Also contained within the centre is the active learning environment classrooms where students work on problem based learning.
  • Physics wing contains a model of the XMM-Newton Satellite (the European Space Agencies most powerful x-ray telescope placed in orbit).
  • Biology wing contains a skeleton of a Giant Elk (this Elk would have weighed about 600kg with 40kg antlers).
