Daniel Power, UCD Business & Law student talks about his experience doing a summer internship in McCann Fitzgerald.

During the Summer of 2022, I spent three weeks working in McCann Fitzgerald as a summer intern in
their aviation finance department. It was an experience like no other – getting real-world experience
in a large corporate law firm where I was given challenging legal work was hugely beneficial in
confirming my wish to pursue a career in corporate law. As an intern, I spent much of my time
reviewing transaction documents, sitting in on client calls, and helping my associate “buddy” with
different tasks they needed to finish throughout the day.

Alongside the varied legal work, each intern was assigned a project to complete throughout the
three weeks. I was required to answer a simulated client query about banking legislation in Ireland
which gave me the opportunity to explore areas of the law I hadn’t completed in college. I was able
to complete a piece of work I was proud of which demonstrated how much I learned over the three
weeks – I now know how to draft client advice with correct formatting and tone! We were also
assigned a group project to present a charity pitch to a panel of partners. It was a nerve-wracking
experience but gave so much scope for growth – we felt so much more comfortable presenting to an
audience after the experience

.

It wasn’t all transaction documents and presentations however – there were countless social and
networking events throughout the internship. Notable mentions are paint and prosecco at Café-en-
Seine, a treasure hunt, and pints at The Ferryman!

Getting the opportunity to gain professional work experience alongside an intake of other interns
made for such a wonderful experience. Having completed the internship, I feel more confident
working in an office environment, delivering pitches, and engaging in complex legal material. I would
recommend anybody considering such an internship to get applying!
